Refreshing workout ideas to stay fit and active this summer

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities and revamp your fitness routine.  With the days being longer and the weather being warmer, it is the perfect opportunity to take your workouts outside.  Here are some refreshing summer workout ideas to help you stay fit this season.

Morning runs or walks outside:  Kickstart your day by hitting the pavement or trails for a refreshing morning run.  The weather is typically cooler in the mornings, making for a perfect opportunity to get your exercise in before the heat hits.

Outdoor yoga:  Take your yoga practice outside, find a serene spot in your local park, garden or backyard.  Practicing yoga outdoors adds fresh air to your practice and provides plenty of space for stretching and deep breathing.

Swimming:  Dive into the cool waters and enjoy a full-body workout with swimming.  Whether it’s in a pool, lake, or ocean, swimming is a great low-impact activity that engages lots of muscle groups as well as improving cardiovascular health.

Hiking:  Take advantage of the beautiful trails and explore nature through hiking.  Find local hiking spots, national parks, or nature preserves nearby.

Outdoor circuit training:  Design your own circuit training routine at a nearby park or in your backyard.  Incorporate body weight exercises like push ups, squats, lunges and burpees along with cardio like jumping jacks, sprints and high knees.  

Group activities:  Get together with friends or join a league that offers sports and activities like volleyball, soccer, or basketball. Pickleball is the new craze!


Summer is a great time to break away from the monotony of indoor workouts and embrace the great outdoors.  Remember to stay hydrated and protect your skin from the sun. Get outside and get your sweat on!
