It’s crucial to give your body the proper nutrients to help fuel your workouts.  Protein and carbohydrates are two very important macronutrients to consume before and after your workout.

Carbohydrates are a main source for energy prior to exercising.  Eating a meal or snack with an adequate amount of carbohydrates will give you the energy to make it through your workout.  Don’t be AFRAID of carbs.

Protein is another fuel source that is important.  It’s essential for repairing and building muscle tissue.  Making sure you are getting plenty of protein in a meal or snack after your workout can help muscle recovery and growth. How much protein do you need? Read this here

Fueling your body with the correct nutrients is needed for promoting recovery after exercise.  Eating fruits, veggies and healthy fats will also help reduce inflammation and promote recovery.

Make sure you’re getting lean protein, healthy carbs, and fats as well as lots of micronutrients into your diet to help your body recover so you can come back just as strong during your next workout.

Here are 5 helpful tips to keep you on track:

  1. Make Whole Foods a priority:  be sure to consume a variety of whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats.  These foods will give your body the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your body needs.

  2. Balance your macronutrients:  carbohydrates, fats and protein should be balanced within your diet.  Talk to a nutrition coach about the ratio that will best suit you and your fitness goals.

  3. Drink plenty of water:  staying hydrated before, during and after exercise is extremely important.  Dehydration can decrease performance and increase your risk of injury.

  4. Avoid diets that are restrictive:  drastically cutting calories or eliminating entire food groups can be damaging to your health and can stop you from reaching your fitness goals.

  5. Seek guidance:  consider working with a nutrition coach to develop a plan specific to you so you are able to work towards your health goals with a proper diet.
